About Kathryn

Dr. Kathryn Britton is a practicing cardiologist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston and the founder of KB Health Strategies, a healthcare management consulting firm specializing in guiding complex academic medical centers and health systems toward achieving their strategic goals. She launched KB Health Strategies in 2021, inspired by a new challenge after multiple years in clinical administrative leadership at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) culminating in the leadership challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. With over two decades of executive healthcare management experience, she brings a wealth of expertise to her consulting practice.

Dr. Britton began her career as an NIH-funded physician-scientist studying obesity and vascular disease before transitioning to healthcare management. She first assumed a leadership role as Medical Director within the Department of Quality and Safety at BWH, where she played a pivotal role in efforts to reduce readmissions and mortality, optimize length of stay, and prepare the organization for its Epic adoption. Her responsibilities expanded when she was appointed Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) and Vice President of Medical Affairs in 2015. In this role, she oversaw the strategic development, implementation, and management of key programs, overseeing a large multi-million dollar budget with >170 full-time employees.

Dr. Britton also served on the boards of Partners HealthCare and New England Life Care, further contributing to healthcare governance and strategic oversight. Since founding KB Health Strategies, she has partnered with nationally ranked health systems and academic medical centers on a range of initiatives, including:

  • APP compensation models in union and non-union environments

  • Health system integration strategies

  • Case and utilization management improvements

  • Executive recruitment

  • Ambulatory template optimization and clinic workflow enhancement

Dr. Britton earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard College and her medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons.   She holds a Master’s in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.  She completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, serving as chief medical resident, followed by subspecialty training in cardiovascular and vascular medicine at Boston University and Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys open-water swimming, cross-country skiing, and running. She is also fortunate to spend time watching her children compete in sporting events and spend time with loved ones as part of a large extended family within a dual-career household.
